Amerisleep is a clean, plant-based brand. Every mattress is made in-house, from core to cover, which the company is very proud of. A USA-made brand is also giving it the name Amerisleep – a mattress made in America. 

They like calling themselves ‘sleep revolutionists’. Which we are putting to the test in today’s Amerisleep mattress review.

Watch out. Amerisleep has A LOT of sleeping products available:

• memory foam mattresses with five options 
• hybrid mattress models with four options
• other accompanying bedding products.

All are said to be made to give more profound, more comfortable, healthier sleep. Rest is the first and most loved state at Amerisleep. Waking up energized and happy is the second, also crucial.

They use many contemporary technologies to give customers the best possible sleeping extravaganza. Those include:

• Bio-Pur®, with advanced-open cell design for cooler sleep;
• HIVE® layers, for extra cushion and support
• Active Flex, for extra bounce and advanced pressure relief *

In our regular reviews, this is the part where we go in-depth and show you all the layers of a mattress in focus. Regularly we divide this into sections according to the construction of the mattress. But, this review is a tad different just because we’re reviewing five mattresses at once. 

So, in this Amerisleep mattress review, we will speak briefly about all of that. We’ll cover layers, specifics, covers, and materials.

Cover

First of all, all five models are made from pure memory foam. They have a similar construction but not firmness. They all have the same cover.

These differences in Amerisleep mattresses are intentional. Mattresses cater to the broadest range of sleepers looking at the comfort layers. 

Celliant 

The cover is made from a polyester/celliant blend. The role of the cover is to regulate heat. 

Celliant itself is a thermo-reactive mineral that turns body heat into infrared light. Besides reducing heat, celliant covers help reduce pain. 

It offers more pressure relief to anyone sleeping on them.

Bio-Pur®

Amerisleep mattresses are green-made, and it wouldn’t be redundant to mention Bio-Pur®.

Bio-Pur® is a plant-based material that keeps the sleeper even cooler at night. Its open-cell structure allows more airflow, making it a much better option than regular memory foam. 

In comparison, Bio-Pur® is:

• more breathable (perfect for hot sleepers)
• more responsive & supportive (great for pressure relief)
• eco-friendly (minimizing non-renewable resources)
• resistant to dust mites and mold (ensuring healthier sleep) than regular memory foam.

Amerisleep AS1 Construction

Under the Celliant cover, the firmest mattress from the bunch has a:

• 2″ Bio-Pur® Comfort Layer
• 8″ Bio-Core Base Layer

This 2″ comfort layer of the mattress regulates heat and has antimicrobial effects. The Comfort layer makes it responsive, even though it’s a memory foam mattress. The responsiveness prevents the feeling of ‘stuck‘ in the bed.

The core base layer of AS1 is 8″ tall, designed to offer peaceful sleep for stomach and back sleepers. It’s high-density foam and a very firm one, so this one doesn’t sag even if heavier individuals sleep on it. Due to its firmness, AS1 is also very durable. 

That’s 10″ in total, which fits almost any bed frame. Thanks to this kind of construction, Amerisleep AS1 is your proper firm mattress. It’s the comfort you’ll love if you’re a back or stomach sleeper, as it contours the body lightly. It fulfills its purpose of providing healthy sleep.

Because of its relatively thin construction, sleepers who want total pressure relief may feel discontent with Amerisleep AS1. That’s also why side sleepers will find the AS1 way too firm.

Instead, explore options like Amerisleep AS3 or AS4.

Amerisleep AS2 Construction

Next in question is the 12″ AS2. It consists of:

• 2″ Bio-Pur® Comfort Layer
• 3″ Affinity Layer
• 7″ Bio-Core Base Layer

The same 2″ Bio-Pur® Comfort Layer as AS1 motivates airflow to reduce heat. This effort from Amerisleep comes from that memory foam mattresses naturally trap heat. 

Bio-Pur® is eco-produced and plant-based. So its efforts to offer healthy sleep are highly appreciated.  

Next is the 3″ Affinity Layer that offers a lot of support. Remember that Amerisleep AS2 is a memory foam mattress, so its support isn’t as sturdy as a hybrid. Either way, it aims to keep you aligned and comforted. Due to this layer, overall contouring is moderate.

The last layer is the 7″ Bio-Core base layer that is again high-density polyfoam. It makes the Amerisleep AS2 long-lasting.

Amerisleep AS2 is a medium-firm mattress that side sleepers will like more than the AS1. Most back sleepers will fancy AS2 as well.

Amerisleep AS3 Construction

Amerisleep AS3 is the most popular and best-selling memory foam mattress model. It’s due to the perfect balance between a firm and plush feel. It’s also 12″ like Amerisleep AS2, and due to its open-cell structure, it has even deeper contouring. 

Amerisleep AS3 has a similar construction to AS2, with similar layer distribution:

• 3″ Bio-Pur® Comfort Layer
• 2″ Affinity Layer
• 7″ Bio-Core Base Layer

The layer distribution of Amerisleep AS3 makes it thicker and more contouring. The thicker comfort layer could retain more warmth than the previous models. In its defense, motion isolation is excellent on the Amerisleep AS3 mattress because of the plush feel. 

Side and combination sleepers enjoy this medium-firm cushion. 

Amerisleep AS4 Construction

Are you noticing a pattern so far? Memory foam Amerisleep mattresses are similar – they have the same materials. But, those comfort layers are different to provide comfort to all sleeper types and sizes.

Amerisleep AS4 is quite similar to AS2 and AS3,  construction-wise. Yet it has a 2″ thicker Bio-Pur® Comfort Layer and an even thinner Affinity Layer than AS3. It is the second softest model of the bunch. 

Amerisleep AS4 has the thickest memory foam layer of any Amerisleep mattress model.

Its construction is: 

• 4″ Bio-Pur® Comfort Layer
• 1″ Affinity Layer
• 7″ Bio-Core Base Layer

This construction makes Amerisleep AS4 a mattress loved by side and combination sleepers. Harmony between these layers gives sleepers pronounced contouring and a giant plush hug. 

Top-notch motion isolation and pressure relief are what enhance this mattress. It stands out from the crowd for its soft feel but also its price tag!

Note that heat retention is a tad poorer than on firmer counterparts. And the feeling of sinkage is felt more with the AS4 mattress, which some sleepers like less than others. 

Amerisleep AS5 Construction

The softest of them all, the Amerisleep AS5 mattress is terrific for light and side sleepers. It is also the most luxurious with the construction of:

• 3″ Bio-Pur® Comfort Layer
• 2″ Active Flex Layer
• 2″ Affinity Layer
• 7″ Bio-Core Base Layer

Fourteen inches in total, AS5 has an additional layer of softness. It’s the ActiveFlex foam layer that adds bounce without reducing pressure relief. Additionally, it has strong contouring. 

It is significantly more expensive than the rest of the memory foam mattress models, coming at $2,199 for a Queen size. 

It is remarkably softer than the rest, which stomach and some sleepers often dislike.

Firmness & Feel 

The comforts and firmness of a mattress depend on many factors. Key are personal preference, sleeping position, and weight. Another huge factor is how well you handle the heat during your night’s sleep. 

Amerisleep foam mattresses all have different firmness levels and all have a different feel. We can declare them as:

What do you do then?

Heavy Body Sleepers

Well, if you are over 230 lbs, all Amerisleep mattresses might feel firmer. Here, you’ll probably want to go a step lower on the firmness scale, choosing a softer out of the five.

So, instead of choosing a medium like the Amerisleep AS3, try going for the medium-soft like the AS4 mattress.

Light Body Sleepers

If you’re a light person, you might feel these five memory foam mattresses are much softer. That is why you’ll want to go a step above on the firmness scale when choosing your mattress.

If you like a proper soft mattress, the Amerisleep AS4 would probably be your safe choice, rather than the AS5.

Durability

The durability of any mattress is influenced mostly by firmness levels. Comfort layers dictate the longevity of an Amerisleep in the first place. So, if you get a softer mattress, you’d probably worry about sagging sooner. But hey, at least you’ll be sleeping on extra soft cushions. 

How long do Amerisleep mattresses last?

There is an estimate that your Amerisleep mattress will last seven to ten years. It’s kind of a reasonable period for a mattress with a 20-year warranty.

But, how long an Amerisleep will actually last also depends on how you take care of it.

The most critical factors of Amerisleep’s durability are:

• Your weight and pressure applied

If you’re heavier than 230 lbs, choosing the wrong mattress could compromise its performance. You don’t want your investment gone south, as you’ll probably use up your warranty faster.

• The base you put the mattress on

If you use an improper foundation, there could be issues with your mattress. Sagging, indentations, and losing spinal alignment are possible outcomes. You wouldn’t like investing in a high-end mattress and use the wrong base, would you? 

Most bases, tho can be used with these mattresses, including non-spring foundations, platform bed frames, and adjustable bed bases. Box springs are not the best base for a memory foam mattress.

• The airflow in the room 

Plush Amerisleep mattress models have problems with heat if the room isn’t ventilated right.

Remember to:

• turn on the A/C when it’s hot and humid, 
• keep your window open
• clean your bedroom regularly.

These factors influence the longevity of any mattress greatly, regardless of its price. 

Firmer mattresses have a predisposition to a longer lifespan than soft foam cushions. 

Motion Transfer

There’s superior motion isolation on all Amerisleep mattresses. The reason is the memory foam comfort layers. 

Memory foam offers a slow response to applied pressure. That’s why couples love it! It eats all movement up, making Amerisleep memory foam mattresses the most peaceful sleep companion.

Couples, if you both like memory foam, you will love sharing Amerisleep. We hope you agree on the same level of firmness, of course. 

Softer options like Amerisleep AS3, AS4, and AS5 isolate more movement than AS1 and AS2. They have a thicker layer of memory foam and thus less motion transfer.  

Outstanding motion isolation often means a shortage of bounce. Due to slow-moving memory foam, mattresses from AS1 to AS5 tend to be less responsive. If you need a more jumpy feel, check out the Amerisleep hybrid mattresses. These have coils and give your mattress a bouncy castle vibe.

Edge Support

All five Amerisleep mattresses have memory foam and edge support that’s not glorious. Sleepers could sense rolling off the edge of the or dropping down a bit when they sit on its edge.

The hybrid versions of Amerisleep have much more refined edge support. That’s why they’d probably be a better option for those who need to take up as much space as possible. 

If you are a combo sleeper, your experience with a memory foam mattress like Amerisleep could be bad. It is because of low response foam and poor edge support. There’s a possibility you’ll feel trapped in a memory foam nook. Instead, look into hybrid Amerisleep mattresses.

Pressure Relief

There are five Amerisleep models and thus five levels of pressure relief. 

Bear with us because there is A LOT of repetition in this review. But for real, all firmness levels offer more pressure relief for specific pain points.

Hips, shoulders, back, and neck all need hugging, and AS1 all through AS5 got you covered. Not only you but all sleeper types, for that matter!

People who experience intense pressure along the spine will love firmer mattress options like AS1 and AS2. Especially if they sleep on their backs. 

Proper firm and medium-firm mattresses also relieve hip pressure, especially for stomach sleepers. 

Contouring and weight distribution are significant relaxation factors. Firmer Amerisleep foam is made especially for that. 

Soft, and luxuriously soft Amerisleep mattresses hug and massage side and combo sleepers’ pain points, giving them uninterrupted sleep. Crazy soft but they come at a higher price point! Relieving pressure with a soft one like Amerisleep AS4 or AS5 could be pricey.

Temperature Regulation

So far, you’ve seen mattresses differ from one to another. The same will be with heat control. Different materials and firmness levels influence how air flows and wicks away heat.

Material-wise, the levels of foam quality need to be exceptional. Letting airflow and give the mattress space to breathe keeps it cool. Their origin mainly, but also the design of the materials play key here. 

Because of Bio-Pur®, Amerisleep mattresses are far more breathable and cooler than regular memory foam.

And depending on the firmness levels, naturally, the mattresses’ heat retention will drop. The firmest mattresses are also coolest, or they retain the least heat. As the firmness progresses to medium-soft and soft, the thickness rises in inches. What we’re left with is a mattress that has more challenges with heat.

It’s important to ensure airflow in the room where you put the Amerisleep mattress. Essential is fresh air in the room and the appropriate mattress base. 

Sleeper Type Preferences & Weight 

By now, you probably know that a good night’s sleep is nothing without proper neck and spine alignment. 

In the segment Pressure Relief, you saw which mattress will support your needs. But one crucial thing you shouldn’t overlook is your sleeping style.

Which sleeper type are you?

Back Sleepers

If you sleep on your back, you need support and comfort. Mattresses that will give your back love are Amerisleep AS1 and Amerisleep AS2. 

Both on the firmer side, AS1, and AS2 should relieve back pain that is brought during the day. Other pain points, too, should be supported resting on AS1 and AS2.

Side Sleepers

If you are a side sleeper, you’d typically like a soft mattress more than a medium-firm or firm Amerisleep mattress. Increased cushion all the way, since what matters most is waking up with no tension in the neck and knee area. 

Being hugged by eco memory foam has never been closer, as Amerisleep AS4 and AS5 will keep your fantasy in life!

Unless you’re a heavier sleeper who is over 230 pounds, then opt for Amerisleep AS3. It will be more durable and less sinking. (And less expensive ????).

Keep in mind that memory foam layers over 3″ may pose problems for those who sleep hot.

Stomach Sleepers

If sleeping on your belly gives you the most comfort, be sure to pick a medium or medium-firm mattress. Picking between Amerisleep AS2 and AS3 will give you the best rest. 

Your neck and spine have to be taken into account, as well.

Combo Sleepers 

Combination sleepers switch positions during the night, which can be irritable for their partner. 

So, it would help if you had a medium mattress on the firmness scale. This way, you’ll love sleeping on Amerisleep, waking up energized to conquer the day.

Sleep Trial

You’re looking for a way to buy a mattress but don’t want to feel like you’ve made the wrong decision breaking the bank. With brands like Amerisleep, you get a substantial period of 100 days where you can snooze but not lose! 

Here’s the deal: it is a standard to have more extended trial periods in the mattress industry. 

Amerisleep will never make you buy something and expect you to love it instantly. 

The reason is adjusting to the mattress. It can take up to 30 days for your body to tune with the memory foam mattress, so that’s the shortest trial you should accept. 

You get a few months to sleep, snore, nap, and dream on the Amerisleep mattresses until you’ve made a firm decision to keep one.

Amerisleep Warranty

The warranty length on all Amerisleep mattresses is 20 years. Comparing Amerisleep’s relaxed policy to the whole industry, this is an okay offer. The warranty breaks down into two phases:

• the first ten years of the warranty that accepts a total replacement of the mattress
• & the second 10 years, which is a prorated warranty;

During the first warranty phase, you can get a repair or replacement of your mattress. The company will handle all the costs, including shipping. 

During the other ten years, Amerisleep will replace your mattress for a portion of its cost. This price will be 50% of the original cost. You’ll also be responsible for the shipping.
This warranty applies only if you purchased:

• from Amerisleep directly, or 
• from a registered dealer, retailer, or distributor. 

If you get your mattress elsewhere, no official warranty will cover you.

What voids the warranty is the improper care of the mattress. This counts for removing the tag or staining the mattress (or other forms of discoloration). If you pair the mattress with a foundation that doesn’t suit it, you could also get the warranty void. 

These can be bases for the Amerisleep mattresses:

• non-spring foundations (with a slatted or solid surface)
• platform bed frames
• adjustable bed bases
• box spring (only with 0.75-inch plywood over it)

Do I need a box spring?

If by any chance you don’t love the mattress from Amerisleep, use the 100 night trial period to begin a return. And a piece of general advice is not to return before the 30 days of using it have passed. 

Giving the mattress a whole month is a fair chance and more affordable.
