The Sanskrit word “sattva” means “purity, wholesomeness, and virtue.” To the Saatva company, it reflects both their mission and their identity.
The Saatva company launched in 2010. Since the early days, the company has adopted an innovative online business model. This made shopping for high-quality, luxury mattresses easier for everyone.
The Saatva mattresses are not your typical bed-in-a-box. Instead, Saatva offers handcrafted “factory-fresh” mattresses at the lowest price. This means that the mattress goes into production, once you place your order. If you order from Saatva, you get a free white glove delivery, as well as a free mattress & foundation removal.
The company primarily focuses on its mattress and other bedding products. Saatva offers seven different mattress models made from premium materials, like antimicrobial cotton.
Today, we will be reviewing the Saatva Classic mattress, or just Saatva mattress, their flagship hybrid innerspring mattress. It is one of the most popular models on the market, designed to cater to a wide variety of sleepers.
But, is it too good to be true? Is this your brand new mattress? Should you try it for yourself?
Take a closer insight and get your answer by reading our Saatva mattress review.
Saatva Mattress Review In a Nutshell
- Saatva Mattress is a luxury hybrid innerspring mattress that uses premium organic materials.
- Saatva has a dual-coil system and the Euro pillow top.
- The Saatva mattress gives you the support and comfort you need for a good night’s rest.
- You can choose between three different firmness or comfort levels: Plush Soft (3), Luxury Firm (5-7), and Firm (8).
- You can also choose the height of the Saatva mattress at 11.5″ or 14.5″ tall.
- Saatva has a 24/7 customer service, free white glove delivery, and a generous home trial period of 180 nights.
- Saatva offers six more models – Loom & Leaf, Saatva Latex Hybrid, Solaire Adjustable, Saatva Youth, Zenhaven Latex, and Saatva HD.
The first thing you notice about the Saatva mattress is its soft and breathable cover. The cover is made from 100% organic cotton, grown from non-GMO plants. The durable cover gives the bed a premium, luxurious 5-star hotel look.
It is also antimicrobial and hypoallergenic, to block harmful bacteria’s growth. Even though the cover is non-removable, it is easy to take care of. You can remove stains with some mild detergent and water.
What makes the Saatva mattress unique is the 3″ Euro pillow top. This comfort layer is stitched underneath the cotton cover, which gives it a cleaner look. In contrast to a conventional pillow top, it tends to be denser. That way it doesn’t lose its shape over time, making it durable. As it makes the mattress more padded, it makes the Saatva mattress look like a giant fluffy pillow.
Underneath the Euro-top is a thin layer of polyfoam and memory foam. The CertiPUR-US® certified high-density memory foam supports the lumbar region. It keeps the spine in a healthy alignment to reduce back and joint pain and relieve pressure.
The transitional layer consists of individually wrapped coils, which are called comfort coils. Although they are smaller in size than the coils in the base of the Saatva mattress, they give some great bounce to the bed. They also help position the sleeper more on top of the bed rather than just sinking in it.
As they are individually wrapped and flexible, the coils isolate motion and contour to the body’s movements. They provide extra support to the sleeper’s body and pressure relief to the back, joints, and hips.
In every Saatva mattress, you can find a support core of 13-gauge hourglass coils. They are called the Everflex coils. Made from tempered steel, the coils are durable and able to handle heavier weights. Also, they provide support to the body and prevent the Saatva mattress from sagging.
What makes the Saatva mattress different from others is its dual-coil system. This is what gives Saatva an advantage over its competitors.
- First, the spaces between the coils allow for air to move between them, which keeps you cool at night.
- Second, the coils isolate the motion, as they don’t create a ripple effect when you toss and turn at night. As it isolates motion, it is an excellent mattress for people who share the bed with a significant other.
- Saatva has a 24/7 customer service, free white glove delivery, and a generous home trial period of 180 nights.
- Third, the dual-coil system makes the Saatva mattress more durable and longer-lasting than other mattresses.
- And finally, they work together to provide you additional comfort and support when you are sleeping.
Firmness & Feel
As mentioned before, thanks to its coil-to-coil system and the Euro pillow top, the Saatva mattress gives you both support and comfort. You have the option to choose one from the three Saatva firmness options:
- Plush Soft
- Luxury Firm
Plush Soft is Saatva’s softest comfort level at 3. It is ideal for people that like extra contouring and soft, comfy mattresses. With a comfort level of 8, Firm is great for heavier body types and those that don’t like the feel of sinking into the mattress. Most customers choose Luxury Firm. Its level of comfort ranges from 5 to 7, making it a medium-firm mattress.
Luxury Firm is best suited for people who want a good night’s sleep with some support, those with back or neck pain, and even couples with different sleep preferences. The majority of Saatva mattress reviews rate Luxury Firm a 6,75 out of 10 on the firmness scale. This makes it just a touch above medium-firm and great for combination sleepers.
Also, all Saatva mattresses can come in two different heights, 11.5″ or 14.5″. It doesn’t change the bed’s structure, but it is something to note if you like to sleep on higher mattresses.
Because of its structure, the Saatva mattress is designed to be durable and to last a long time. One of the dual-coil system’s roles is to reduce the chance of sagging and to provide constant support.
It is important to note that the system is designed to adapt to different sleeper types. The Saatva Classic may not be the right fit for sleepers that are over 300 pounds. With normal use, the Saatva mattress is built to last 10 to 15 years. Of course, good maintenance can prolong the life of any mattress.
When buying a mattress, one of the factors to consider is motion transfer. If you or your partner are light sleepers, then you need a mattress that is both sound and motion proof.
The combination of memory, polyfoam, and individually wrapped coils in Saatva Classic reduces the feeling of movement. Take note: if you or your partner are restless sleepers, you may experience some motion. This is sadly because Saatva’s dual coil system makes the mattress a bit bouncy.
If you heavily rely on edge support, then Saatva is the right choice for you. The Saatva mattress has dense, firm foam rails that surround its perimeter. These rails are what keep the edge from sagging. The rails also make getting in and out of the bed easier.
This may be important for you and your partner or if you are someone with mobility issues. Stable and consistent edge support also means that you don’t have to worry about falling out of the bed.
Due to the enhanced foam rail, it provides you with a more extra sleeping surface. The rail also makes the Saatva mattress more durable to wear and tear.
Though, if you go with the Plush Soft version of the Saatva, the edges may not feel secure. The soft version allows individuals to sink in more. Also, if you weigh more than 230 pounds, you can expect to experience more edge sinkage.
It doesn’t matter which level of firmness you choose. All Saatva mattress versions are designed to relieve pressure. Why is this important? If your weight is equally distributed, there is less chance to wake up with back, hips, shoulder, and joint pain.
Across the board, the Saatva mattress is praised for its pressure relieving property. This is achieved with the fluffy Euro-top cushions and the individually wrapped coils. They comfortably conform to your body’s shape.
The extra support from the memory foam pad also helps you to not sink in too much. That way your spine can be better aligned.
Most agree that strict side sleepers will benefit more from the Plush Soft version. Its softer structure will allow the body to sink better in the Saatva mattress. On the other hand, it’s recommended for sleepers over 230 pounds to go with the Firm version. That way, they can sleep on top of the mattress.
The best fit for combination sleepers will either be the Plush Soft or the Luxury Firm. This depends on which side they favor during their night’s rest.
If you tend to overheat during sleep, it might be a good investment to buy a Saatva mattress.
Although Saatva does not have a special cooling technology built-in, you will not overheat at night. The Saatva Euro-top is knitted with polyfoam and memory foam. This makes it a lot cooler than regular memory foam. A bonus point is its organic cotton cover. The cover allows air to circulate in and out of the mattress, keeping it cool and fresh.
Secondly, Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress that has two layers of coils. Because of these layers, there is more room for air to flow freely. This makes Saatva more breathable than its competitors.
Some do caution against going with the Plush Soft version. As it conforms more to the body, Saatva retains slightly more heat.
Sleeper Type Preferences & Weight
According to their website, the Saatva mattress, especially the Luxury Firm version, is meant for all sleeper types. This is due to that Saatva conforms to the body while simultaneously offering relief to the sleeper. This is what makes Saatva one of the best mattresses for lower back pain and arthritis. Let’s take a closer look to see if that really is the case.
Side sleepers tend to prefer softer mattresses that contour to the shape of the body. That is why Saatva’s combination of the Euro pillow top and the coils is a great choice for them. It shapes to their body and shifts the weight, preventing shoulder and hip discomfort.
Still, some strict side sleepers tend to find their firm options a little bit too stiff. Depending on your body type, you may want to avoid the Firm version altogether. If you weigh under 230 pounds, then the Plush Soft version is the right choice for you. Heavier side sleepers still need a firmer mattress, so get the Luxury Firm version.
Most Saatva mattress reviews agree. The back sleepers will definitely enjoy the Saatva Classic. It has an amazing comfort layer that balances both ease and support. This is important, as back sleepers may experience lower back pain.
For lightweight back sleepers that prefer softer beds, Plush Soft and Luxury Firm options are a great choice.
Heavier sleepers will find the Firm version to be the right fit for them. But if they prefer a bit softer mattress, then they can’t go wrong with the Luxury Firm.
In general, stomach sleepers need a firmer mattress that gives them support, as they usually put more pressure on their midsection than other sleepers. They especially need to watch out whether their spine is aligned, as the hips tend to dip into the mattress.
All in all, stomach sleepers will find the Saatva mattress to be a good pick for them. The coils do a great job of both compressing and providing a little push-back to the body.
If you are a strict stomach sleeper or of medium to heavier weight, we suggest sticking with the Luxury Firm or the Firm option. They provide extra support and minimum sink.
Do you tend to switch sleep positions during the night? If so, then you are a combination sleeper.
Even though combination sleepers tend to switch, they usually have a preferred side. Depending on your dominant sides and preferences, the Saatva Classic can be a good pick for you. Especially if you go with the Plush Soft or the Luxury Firm models.
If you tend to favor sleeping on your stomach or back, but end up on your side, go with the Luxury Firm. If you primarily sleep on your side but wind up on your stomach and/or back, choose Plush Soft.
Also to take into consideration is your body type. Light- and medium weight combination sleepers will be happy with any mattress. But, firmer models are a better fit for heavier sleepers.

Other Mattress Models
Other than the Classic model, the Saatva company offers six other mattress models:
How are they different from the Saatva Classic, what they offer, and who are they best suited for?
Loom & Leaf
The Loom & Leaf is the Saatva company’s memory foam mattress. It is designed to offer sleepers great body-contouring and sinkage. The mattress is made with an eco-friendly 5-lbs memory foam.
The foam is infused with Saatva’s special cooling gel which doesn’t trap heat during the night. It also provides additional comfort and lumbar support.
It is a slightly more expensive model than the Saatva Classic, as its starting price for the Twin Size model is $887. With proper upkeep, Saatva Loom & Leaf can last you up to 15 years.
It’s available in all standard mattress sizes with a height of 12″. Like the Saatva Classic, you can choose two different comfort levels: Relaxed Firm (5-7) and Firm (8). This mattress is a top pick for couples and side sleepers. According to the website, the Firm version is also suitable for back and stomach sleepers.
Saatva Latex Hybrid
If you are in the market for an eco-friendly, natural, and organic latex hybrid mattress, then the Saatva Latex Hybrid might be the perfect choice for you.
It is more expensive than the Saatva Classic and Loom & Leaf models, with the starting price of $1,149 for a Twin Size mattress. The mattress is 13″ tall and available in all sizes, except for the Split California King.
What makes it different from the Saatva Classic is that it uses natural New Zealand wool instead of memory foam. The wool helps regulate temperature and provides better breathability.
The mattress also has a five-zone Talalay latex layer, making it a top pick for those with back problems and that need extra lumbar support.
A top-quality air mattress may be tough to find, but luckily Saatva offers you a great option – the Saatva Solaire Adjustable. It has a hidden pump that operates quietly, and it has a 25-year warranty.
Compared to the Classic, Solaire offers you a whopping 50 firmness options, making it a mattress that suits almost everybody. While both models have a pillow top and a gel memory foam, they offer different experiences, as Solaire is better at isolating movement.
It is, however, definitely the most expensive Saatva model with a starting price of $2,147. The mattress can inflate to a height of 13″ and is not available in Twin Size.
Growing bodies need a mattress that will provide both proper support and comfort to a child’s body. Enter Saatva Youth, a double-sided innerspring mattress for children ages 3 to 12.
The Saatva Youth is available in three sizes: Twin, Twin XL, and Full. It is also 10″ thick. Youth mattress, i.e., mattress for children, are typically cheaper than mattress meant for adults.
Thanks to its design, you don’t need to buy a new bed as your child grows up. You only need to flip it – one side fits children ages 3 to 7, the other aged 8 to 12.
Like other Saatva models, the mattress is hypoallergenic and made with organic material. It is also a water-resistant finish and internal waterproof barrier. This makes it easy to clean up any spills or accidents.
Zenhaven Latex is another dual-sided mattress from Saatva. What makes this mattress special is that it is made from 100% natural Talalay latex and organic thermoregulating wool straight from New Zealand. The latex makes the mattress both hypoallergenic and antimicrobial.
It doesn’t come in Split California King Size, but like Saatva Youth, you can choose the firmness of the bed by simply flipping it over:
- One side has the Luxury Plush comfort level of 4 to 5.
- The other – the Gentle Firm level of 7-8
For all those looking for an all-natural bed, the mattress is a long-term investment with a 20-year warranty. It is also best suited for hot sleepers and back and stomach sleepers.

No, HD doesn’t stand for High Definition; it stands for Heavy Duty. Saatva HD is designed to give support and relief for sleepers that weigh between 300 and 500 pounds.
It is available in all sizes except Split California King and is the tallest mattress out of all Saatva’s models at the height of 15.5″. It is similar to the Saatva Classic, but it’s more durable as it uses 12.5-gauge tempered steel base coils.
What may turn some people away is the price, as it is more expensive than the Saatva Classic, second only to the Solaire.
Their website also suggests that you pair it up with their Saatva HD foundation, but you can also put it on a box spring or a solid platform bed frame with vertical center support with no slats. Also, avoid placing the mattress on an adjustable base, as it will not flex. that weigh between 300 and 500 pounds.
Mattress Prices & Sizes
Saatva mattress is available in all standard sizes, but it also has two additional sizes:
Split King and Split California King.
What does it mean when the mattress is split? A Split King or a Split California King means that the King/California King mattress is split in half. The mattress is the same size as the regular, but each half is the same as a Twin XL size mattress. Split mattresses make an excellent choice for couples with different sleep preferences. They reduce disturbance for both partners during sleep time.
Additionally, the Saatva Classic is available in two heights, 11.5″ and 14.5″, so you can choose which one you prefer. Still, 14.5″ may be too high for some people.
If you are a couple, you should note that the 14.5″ model uses deep pocket sheets. It’s not recommended to pair it up with an adjustable base. As previously mentioned, there are three different firmness options, but this doesn’t influence the price.
Weight ranges from 100 pounds for Twin to 145 pounds for King. The Saatva mattresses are slightly heavier compared to others. For example, the average Twin bed weighs from 40 to 60 pounds. Though, this shouldn’t worry you too much, as Saatva offers a free white glove delivery.
